Model Overview
The Jensen Interceptor was the gentlemen's express of its era — combining Italian elegance, American muscle and English craftsmanship into a presence and character very few can replicate. The Mk III is the definitive expression of the run — hand-built in West Bromwich and, from 1972, fitted with Chrysler's 7.2-litre V8 delivering effortless torque and a deep, intoxicating burble you'll never tire of.
Half a century on, the Interceptors that define the top of the market are provenance-led — offering the certainty and confidence that come from a story known in full. It is these credentials that set this example apart — a complete history from factory correspondence through to today; a matching-numbers engine and gearbox; and a fresh engine rebuild within £27,000 of mechanical work, presented in exceptional order.
Provenance & Ownership
The full history has been comprehensively assessed and compiled into a single digitalised provenance file — turning 54 years of paperwork into a clear, readable account of every owner, every invoice, and the standard of craftsmanship and care behind them.
The most significant chapter is the most recent. Under its current keeper, a £27,243 engine rebuild and mechanical overhaul was carried out by Pristine Classic Cars across 2025—26, following a full differential rebuild by AJS Engineering in 2024. The 7.2 V8 was fully stripped, rebored and rebuilt with two new Edelbrock aluminium cylinder heads; an uprated alloy radiator with twin electric fans was fitted; the brakes were renewed and the suspension refreshed; and the factory air conditioning was overhauled, re-sealed and recharged. A voluntary MOT was carried out in June 2026, with no advisories to note.
Total documented expenditure since 2004 stands at £81,008.91, anchored by a comprehensive bare-metal restoration between 2004 and 2006 with Jensen specialist Richard Appleyard. Costing £46,431.99 across twelve dated invoices, the restoration was completed at 42,904 miles — a mere 1,700 miles ago. The shell was stripped and renewed with new steel throughout, resprayed in its original Silver Grey and finished with a new vinyl roof, alongside a complete wiring loom and a refresh of most ancillary systems. Thereafter it was preserved and admired rather than driven — covering under 100 miles before Avantgarde further recommissioning and a sale in 2014 at 42,998 miles.
Supplied new by Charles Follett Ltd of Mayfair and first registered on 4 August 1972 to Lionel Newman Ltd of Soho, the car retains its original Jensen Motors guarantee registration card and 1972—73 factory correspondence. Matching-numbers and factory specification have been confirmed by the official Statement of Origin issued by Martin Robey Sales Ltd, custodians of the Jensen records.
Preparation
Ahead of listing, the Silver Grey paintwork has been treated to a full 3-stage machine polish — a courtesy to presentation standards, not a necessity.
The interior is presented in its correct, original state — clean and well-kept throughout, with the black trim and seats carefully detailed. A genuine, unmolested period cabin of the kind a discerning buyer values far above anything made new.
The engine bay was comprehensively restored by Pristine Classic Cars alongside the recent engine rebuild, and presents accordingly. The benefit of correct preservation and storage across the years shows the underside to reflect the standard of the bare-metal restoration.
